The company was founded by Kossy Straus and Eric Weiss in 1932 and quickly became established as a supplier to the Foundry Industry, from whence the name FOundry SErvice COmpany was derived.
In the 1950s Foseco entered the steel industry and quickly developed innovative products for use in the ingot casting process. Later, when continuous casting began to gain acceptance, the company's progressive approach was applied to this new steel manufacturing route.
Foseco Steel is now part of the Foseco Group, and firmly
established as a leading supplier of specialist refractories
and metallurgical chemicals for the production of all
kinds of high quality steel. Foseco Steel has a strong
track record in Europe and North America and a rapidly
developing position in the Asia Pacific region, enabling
customers to draw on extensive experience and up-to-date
knowledge of steel refining and continuous casting practice
worldwide. Foseco Steel has 3 manufacturing sites from
which it supports its business, Bonnybridge in Scotland,
Conneaut in the USA and Borken in Germany, the headquarters
for Foseco Steel.
Methods of steel production are constantly changing to meet increasingly exacting demands, and new technical skills are constantly needed to achieve greater steel quality and productivity improvements at minimum cost. Foseco Steel continuously focuses its resources on meeting these challenges, working in partnership with customers to develop new products and systems. Development centres and technology partnerships with universities and research organisations have been established in areas where product technology improvements are required. Foseco Steel works closely with its customers responding positively and imaginatively, to deliver solutions that add real value to this very demanding industry.
