FOSCAST is a range of high temperature refractory powders and pre-cast shapes for use in and around the tundish.

Description

FOSCAST is a high alumina based refractory, produced from the highest quality raw materials to form low and ultra low cement products which provide superior resistance to abrasion and corrosion. It comes in the form of a powder for mixing and casting into position on site, in the case of the larger monolithic structures, or as ready for use in pre-cast shapes.

Application

In addition to supplying standard FOSCAST products, Foseco Steel’s Total Tundish Management Service (TTMS) includes a tundish design service aimed at providing individual customers with the best steel flow conditions through the tundish, taking account of specific operational parameters. Water and mathematical modelling is used to design and position the FOSCAST dams, weirs and baffles in conjunction with Foseco Steel’s patented TURBOSTOP system, to optimise the steel flow through the tundish.

Function

The FOSCAST range of powders and pre-cast shapes are used in the tundish and include:

• FOSCAST dams and weirs used in combination to control steel flow through the tundish
• FOSCAST baffles, with holes designed to direct the flow of molten steel towards the tundish surface to maximise residence time and the removal of non-metallic inclusions
• FOSCAST pour box/impact pads to protect the tundish base from the severe erosion resulting from the ladle teeming stream
• FOSCAST nozzle well blocks, used to house the tundish nozzle
• FOSCAST insulating tundish lids, which minimize heat loss from the surface of the tundish during casting
• FOSCAST permanent or backup lining, is mixed and cast in situ to provide a safety lining for the tundish and prevent breakout during use
• TURBOSTOP tundish flow control systems.
