Summary TUNDEX HS is a heat setting working lining for use in the tundish.

Description It is a high quality, low moisture, tundish lining system for long sequence casting. TUNDEX HS tundish lining is a consumable working lining for continuous casting tundishes, which cures at low temperature. It is of monolithic construction giving consistent internal dimensions and long working life for every tundish.

Application TUNDEX HS is a free-flowing powder, which is first distributed evenly to a thickness of 25 –50mm over the tundish floor. A metal mandrel former, the same shape as the tundish but smaller by a factor of the thickness of the final working lining required, is lowered into the tundish. The dry TUNDEX HS material is then introduced into the cavity between the metal former and the permanent tundish lining by means of a simple gravity fed conveying system. The former is then heated by hot air or a gas flame to approx. 190 - 250oC, causing the powder mixture to harden. After withdrawing the former, the tundish is immediately ready for use. The specially designed former/dryer allows even distribution of the heat throughout the tundish without movement or distortion. After curing the finished lining is immediately ready for casting and can be used cold or preheated, as required.

Function TUNDEX HS is a highly insulating monolithic tundish working lining. Easy to install, it is a waterless system designed for all sizes and shape of tundishes. The insulating properties of a TUNDEX tundish lining ensure that a good temperature profile is maintained during casting, and being a basic material, steel cleanliness is not impaired. The product is designed to provide a friable residue between the skull and the permanent lining after the casting is over, to facilitate smooth deskulling.
