The two main steelmaking processes used for the
refining and conversion of liquid iron produced
in the blast furnace are: 1. Basic Oxygen steelmaking
(BOS) process and
2. Electric Arc steelmaking (EAF) process.
When steel is poured into the ingot mould, progressive
solidification starts from the walls and the base of
the mould, moving inwards towards the thermal centre
or axis.
