| Summary |
FOSCAST iron injection lances are used for the deep injection
of powder reagents for the purpose of desulphurising
the iron in the ladle before it is transferred to the
basic oxygen furnace. |
|
| Description |
The FOSCAST iron injection lance is a key part of the
iron desulphurisation process and ensures that powdered
reagents are introduced as deeply as possible into the
molten iron.
FOSCAST iron lances are manufactured from heavy walled
steel tube, re-inforced to give extra rigidity and clad
with a thick layer of high alumina monolithic refractory
to provide protection from attack by the molten metal
and slag. FOSCAST iron lances are produced from high
alumina refractory cement of monolithic construction.
They range in diameter from 180mm to 210mm and length
from 4-6 metres, and can be of straight-through design
or configured to direct the material sideways through
a multi-port tip. |
|
| Application |
The service life of injection lances depends on the injection
conditions prevailing, which can be influenced by the
desulphurisation reagent used, iron temperatures and
treatment times, type and size of ladle, and slag condition.
For desulphurisation with magnesium or coinjection (Mg+lime)
a lifetime of 400-1050 minutes is achievable. With CaC2,
even longer lives are achievable. |
|
| Function |
FOSCAST iron lances are used in either torpedo or transfer
ladles for the injection of reagents into the iron for
the purpose of desulphurisation. Reagents such as CaC2,
lime and magnesium can be injected, either individually
or as mixtures using a carrier gas of argon or nitrogen.
The lance is part of the powder injection station, which
comprises a powder dispenser, storage silos, lance support
system and a control panel. The material is transported
from the dispenser by means of a flexible pipe to the
injection lance, which has either single or multiple
ports. |
|
| Benefits |
 |
FOSCAST iron lances are designed to individual
customer requirements.
|
 |
The working life is longer, giving a lower cost
of lance per minute of use.
|
 |
FOSCAST iron lances are highly refractory and erosion
resistant.
|
 |
Consistent performance is achieved over an extended
life.
|
 |
Superior construction and refractory composition
ensure high strength and rigidity.
