| Summary |
FOSCAST economisers are cooling systems for electric
arc electrodes. |
|
| Description |
A FOSCAST economiser allows gas or water to be blown
through integrated nozzles onto the electric arc furnace
electrodes for the purpose of cooling the electrodes
during use. It is in the form of 3 replaceable, high
alumina, refractory, pre-cast rings which are located
within the furnace lid. They form a seal between the
furnace lid and the electrode. |
|
| Application |
FOSCAST economisers are positioned in the electrode holes
of the furnace roof and designed to be replaceable during
use, between roof relines. On the inside of the refractory
ring are a series of nozzles, which are connected by
common pipe work to a gas or water supply. When the furnace
roof is in position the 3 graphite electrodes are lowered
through the FOSCAST economisers, which supply a continuous
flow of high pressure gas or water onto the outside surface
of the electrodes, at pressures of 6 and 4 bars respectively. |
|
| Function |
With the integrated nozzle system, FOSCAST economisers
allow water or gas to be applied at pressure to the furnace
electrodes. The cooling action and protection from the
atmosphere reduces the sidewall oxidation of the electrodes,
significantly reducing graphite consumption. |
|
| Benefits |
 |
FOSCAST economisers prevent the escape of furnace
gases during melting, helping to reduce electrode
erosion and oxidation
|
 |
Additional cooling of the electrodes above the
furnace roof results in reduced electrode consumption. |
 |
Monolithic construction allows replacement between
furnace roof relines.
|
 |
Complete all round protection of the electrodes
is provided.
